Explore a hidden gem unknown to most visitors, the historic neighborhood of Testaccio. The birthplace of contemporary local cuisine as we know it, Testaccio's culinary significance dates all the way back to ancient Rome. A favorite dining destination for all Romans, you'll have premier access to the neighborhood's most sought after food and drink. We'll be visiting 6 local vendors where you'll enjoy an array of tastings covering many of Rome's traditional delicacies. I grew up in Testaccio, and am a chef and sommelier, so you will also be trying some of the best wines this country has to offer, as well as going over how to prepare many local dishes, including but not limited to the delicious things you'll be trying on tour. We’ll cover a bit about the history of Rome and of the neighborhood itself, and you’ll learn vital tips regarding how to choose authentic places to eat in and avoid tourist traps during the rest of your journey. Come VERY hungry, there will be a lot for you to enjoy! We start with an aperitivo (a friendly alcoholic tipple), snack our way through the neighborhood (getting to try the city's best Roman style wood-fired pizza), have dinner at Testaccio's most sough-after trattoria, and finish at my favorite childhood Gelateria. Highlights: - Wine tasting with a trained Sommelier - A visit to the best local Bakery - Multiple styles and flavors of Pizza - The best wood-fired Pizzeria in Rome - Traditional Roman Pasta at the neighborhood's top Trattoria - Testaccio's most ancient Gelateria IMPORTANT TO KNOW: - I don't run tours on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays (there may be some high-season exceptions.) - Tours start at 5:00pm sharp, I recommend getting there 15 minutes early to account for traffic, late taxis, etc. - Meeting Point will be communicated in confirmation email upon booking.
